Fuengirola on the Costa del Sol in Southern Spain · Costa Del Sol Fuengirola Info

Mucho More About Here: http://costadelsolfuengirola.info/

You might have already visited Fuengirola in summer – too many people, burning summer heat? Time to replan your Spanish holiday!

The ideal time to visit this vibrant coastal city is during autumn and spring. Mild and pleasant temperatures, glorious sunshine, and quieter streets and beaches make for a really enjoyable holiday! You will find people smile just that little bit easier, shopping and dining are an absolute pleasure, and you can enjoy all the attractions this city has to offer in comfort.

Wonderful sandy beaches, relatively empty out of season, stretch along the coast with many restaurants, bars and chiringuitos (beach cafes) to choose from. Plenty of good shops including fashion, food, shoes, etc. and some excellent new shopping centres have opened up on the border of Fuengirola and Mijas.

Fuengirola is very convenient to Malaga airport – a short drive or train ride away, and is also close to Marbella and other attractions on the Costa del Sol (also known as the Costa del Golf for golfing fans!)

Other major attractions in Fuengirola include:

The Fuengirola Zoo:

Right in the middle of town is an oasis of calm, a world class zoo with wonderful animals in very natural enclosures. Appropriate regional sounds play as you walk around the various areas of the zoo. Of particular interest are the Sumatra Tigers, the gorillas, and also the Lemur enclosure, with many of these fascinating creatures from Magagascar. This enclosure is open with a tour guide at certain times of the day – ask when you arrive at the zoo for a close up experience with magical lemurs. Best time to visit is either early morning (zoo opens at 10 am) or late afternoon.

The Sohail Castle:

On a hilltop, close to the centre of town is the Sohail Castle. Makes a pleasant stroll (if a bit uphill), with wonderful sea views from the top.

Fuengirola Port:

The port of Fuengirola consists of two sections:

1. A working fishing port where it is fascinating to watch the fishermen offloading their catches from the boats – you can also take a pleasant stroll around the port from this point and look at the many boats moored in the port, and also magnificent mountain views.

2. A leisure boat marina, with many attractive yachts and other boats. In this area are several pubs and restaurants, and also enjoyable boat trips are on offer, including sailing boats and glass bottomed boats for viewing the dolphins.

So come and visit Fuengirola and enjoy our city in the so called “off season”! You won’t regret it, and will have a wonderful holiday!

Holidays in Nerja on the Costa del Sol, Spain · Costa Del Sol Fuengirola Info

Mucho More About Here: http://costadelsolfuengirola.info/

Nerja has become one of the most popular holiday resorts on the Costa del Sol to be found east of Malaga. Unlike many of the popular destinations to the west of Malaga heading down towards Gibraltar, such as Torremolinos, Fuengirola and Marbella, Nerja has escaped mass tourism and still retains much of its original charm and character as a former fishing village.

Nerja is nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Almijara mountain range, which shelters it from the worst of winter weather whilst providing a breathtaking backdrop to the town’s traditional whitewashed stone townhouses and villas. It is surely one of the most beautiful destinations along the eastern Costa del Sol. With just a 45-minute drive to Malaga’s international airport, cheap flights available from many European destinations and a regular coastal bus service, Nerja can be an ideal cheap holiday destination.

The Balcon de Europa is the focal point of the old town and offers stunning views over the Mediterranean Sea and nearby beaches. It was originally known as ‘La Bateria’ due to the gun battery that stood here in a fortified tower, but was destroyed in 1810 by a Bristish led force during the Pennisular War to prevent occupation by French forces. Nowadays the Balcon is full of activity with street artists and entertainers, horse-drawn carriages and ice-cream vendors selling a huge variety of flavours and colours. Lined with many bars and restaurants, it offers an ideal location to relax and watch the sun set over the Mediterranean coastline.

In the old quarter of Nerja town itself, many buildings still retain their original Andalucia architectural style, and the narrow winding streets bustle with the authentic atmosphere of a working Spanish town. Yet Nerja has all the advantages of a modern town, with endless shops selling ceramics, textiles, leather goods, souvenirs and essential beach accessories for the family.

Much of Nerja’s nightlife begins late into the evening and you are sure to find a bar to your particular taste, either in the lively Tutti Frutti Square, or the many tranquil bars to be found around the Balcon de Europa. Bars and clubs in Tutti Frutti Square stay open well into the morning hours during the long, hot summer nights, and are particularly popular with younger holiday visitors. However, bars near the Balcon are more conducive to the relaxed atmosphere of Andalucia life.

If you are happy to spend your holiday relaxing in Nerja, you can be assured there are many beautiful sandy beaches hidden within small coves, lined with bars and restaurants in abundance. Burriana beach is one of the largest and most popular with tourists and Spanish alike, whilst to the side of the Balcon itself, hidden within a small cove, can be found one of Nerja’s most charming beaches with golden sand and clear blue water.

Less than 3km away are the famous Nerja Caves first discovered in 1959, now one of the most popular holiday attractions in Spain. The caves have impressive stalactite and stalagmite formations, and a natural cavern that has been turned into an impressive concert hall, the location of many theatre productions and classical concerts. One of Nerja’s most celebrated fiestas is San Isidro on the 15th May. A large procession of decorated carts leave the centre of the town heading towards the caves for a weekend of festivity and celebration, in true Andalucia style. The caves can also be reached by local bus with a regular service leaving from the main bus terminal on Avenida Pescia.

The town itself offers many holiday attractions for the visitor, but if you feel the need to explore some of the attractions Andalucia has to offer, then it is an ideal starting point for trips and excursions. Within a ten minute drive can be reached the beautiful whitewashed-stone villages of Frigiliana and Torrox, both shining white as snow in the sun. For real snow however, the Sierra Mountains offer fantastic, affordable skiing during the winter months and all within a two-hour drive. Nestled in the foothills of the mountains is the Moorish city of Granada, dominated by the mysterious Alhambra Palace. A series of palaces and gardens built over several centuries under the Nazrid Dynasty in the 14th Century.

Nerja has become very popular for people retiring or simply looking for a change of life, with a fifth of the estimated population of 20,000 being foreign residents, including more than 2,000 British. During the summer months this figure increases many more times with the arrival of holiday visitors in abundance attracted by one of the best climates in Europe. With Costa del Sol beaches, golf courses, skiing, adventure parks, water parks and the Almijara mountain range all within easy reach; Nerja has something to offer everyone.

Steve Greenwood has lived on the Costa del Sol for 3 years and works in Nerja. Mijas on the Costa del Sol, Spain – Part One · Costa Del Sol Fuengirola Info

Mucho More About Here: http://costadelsolfuengirola.info/

A typical Andalucian village, Mijas Pueblo is situated approximately 25 minutes from Malaga’s International Airport set high in the mountains above Fuengirola and Mijas Costa offering spectacular views of the surrounding coastline.

Since the village was re-discovered in the mid-sixties Mijas has become the home for some 35′000 residents made up from over 60 different nationalities and there impact has led to a variety of International restaurants and bars springing up throughout the village which covers an area of approximately 142 square kilometres making it the second largest village in the area after Benahavis.

Fortunately, the village has managed to retain some of its quaint traditions, there are no main thoroughfares here, instead a web of narrow cobbled streets lined with white washed houses complete with terraces overflowing with geraniums, red tile roofs, archways and, of course, the occasional chirruping canary and to fully appreciate the village it must be explored by foot, although one can take advantage of the village’s most unusual and popular form of transport the donkey-taxis which line the central plaza.

Mijas dates back to distant times and there are two Mudejar churches here to prove it, as well as the sanctuary of the “Virgen de la Pena” the patron saint of Mijas, from the year 850.

During the month of January, Mijas holds their festival of San Anton which is celebrated with a “romeria” (open air party) at the holy hermitage and reached in carriages and on carts, piled high with flowers and food.

There is a thriving arts and crafts movement in Mijas, particularly linen and wicker items and the locally made bread and honey is definitely worth trying.

Still on a culinary note, the traditional local fare includes “gazpachuelo” (an egg soup) and for those with a sweeter tooth, there are the typical cakes made with almonds, called bunuelos and homazos.

One of the most interesting buildings in Mijas is the hermitage of El Puerto which can be spied, just about everywhere in the village, appropriately enough, halfway up a mountain! Keep looking and you may just catch a glimpse a hang-glider wafting over the peak.

Also look out for the Mineral water spring at the entrance to the village.

Fuengirola on the Costa del Sol, Spain – Part One · Costa Del Sol Fuengirola Info

Mucho More About Here: http://costadelsolfuengirola.info/

Fuengirola on the Costa del Sol, Spain is situated 20 minutes via motorway from Malaga’s international airport and has its own railway station linking it to the airport and beyond.

Fuengirola is without doubt one the most popular destinations on the Costa del Sol it has attracted thousands of foreign residents over the years from all corners of the globe.

With it’s 7 km of sandy beaches and unrivaled entertainment Fuengirola is particularly popular with Spanish nationals, many of whom own summer apartments here. There are also a considerable percentage of British and other nationalities with the result being an impressively wide variety of entertainment and restaurant choice, ranging from the Andalusian traditional tapas and shellfish dishes to the British bangers and beans standard, together with Guinness on tap.

The advantage of staying here is that it is a compact seaside resort and town which has an excellent selection of supermarkets and competitively priced shops, as opposed to being restricted to the typical gift shop strip with its imported shells and t-shirts.

It’s municipal district is surprisingly quite small and is almost entirely built up with developments of apartment blocks, hotels and numerous urbanisation’s, all of which have sprung up around the original town centre.area extending almost eleven square kilometres along the coast between Benalmadena and Mijas.

The northeast boundary is the Arroyo del Jardín stream, and the south-eastern one is at the mouth of the Fuengirola River. In the extreme north the terrain is mountainous, speckled with housing developments.

The area offers the best in tourism: beautiful landscape and everything for the tourist and residents alike from the best restaurants to the top hotels, and a great deal more besides. Add to it’s own pleasure port situated in the town centre with over 200 mooring points for the numerous pleasure boats that visit this area, there is also a fishing port which continues to have considerable importance to the local economy the big marina, the nightspots and the numerous bars, and one has a very privileged town.

The origin of the name is probably Spanish rather than Roman or Moorish having no connection whatsoever with the Roman Suel or Arabic Sohail and deriving from a type of ship that used to dock here.

Latest news on Malaga Airport · Costa Del Sol Fuengirola Info

Mucho More About Here: http://costadelsolfuengirola.info/

The new terminal building at Malaga Airport is due to open next Easter and is set to become a first class commercial centre with more than ten million travellers a year passing through – and this could quickly double.

The Spanish Airport Authority Aena have recently issued contracts for the 21 new food and drinks outlets and 24 shops – most of which will be in the new terminal building. The new Malaga Airport terminal will offer six thousand square metres of bars, cafeterias and restaurants and 2,800 square metres of shops.

Bars and restaurants will include: Soho Coffee, Caviar House, Caffe Ritazza, Pizza Hut, Burger King, O’Leary’s, Starbucks, La Moraga Airport, Whopper Bar, VIPs, Upper Crust, Gambrinus, Dehesa Santa María, Café y Té, La Lechera and Guinness.

Caviar House and Prunier are aimed at high end dining and gourmet travellers, while at the other end of the scale the Whopper Bar is a new concept recently launched by Burger King with only two branches currently open in Florida and Munich. La Moraga Airport is a dining project being led by the local gourmet chef Dani García who is famous for using liquid nitrogen to create a crispy skin around a piece of Iberian ham. He is aiming to recreate his incredibly popular city centre tapas bar in an airport environment.

And the latest news on the shopping area is that it will feature retail outlets for Adidas, Adolfo Domínguez, Ferrari, National Geographic, Cottet watches and spectacles and a Librería Luces bookshop. The National Geographic store will be the first one ever to be located in an airport.

The new terminal has a surface area of 385,000 sqm and has cost an estimated €320M. It will be able to handle 9,000 passengers and 7,500 pieces of luggage per hour. It will have 179 check in desks: 48 departure gates (22 remote and 26 with travelator walkways).

Two new road links will be added: via the A-7 motorway to the south, and the future ring road to the north which will be joined to the national MA-21 road.
Two car parks will be opened with space for more than 3,500 vehicles.

The second runway is expected to be ready for the end of 2010 and will almost double fight capacity from 37 to 72 operations per hour. There will also be a train terminus in the airport building where you can initially catch trains to Malaga City Centre and Fuengirola, with future plans including trains along the Costa del Sol as far as Estepona and an inland high- speed AVE connection to Seville.

As the work is nearing completion and it is believed trial testing will take place early next year, with 2,500 “volunteer passengers” scheduled to check it out and 4,000 suitcases being used to keep the simulations as close to reality as possible.

Mucho More About Here: http://costadelsolfuengirola.info/

Costa del Sol is a must visit place in Spain. It is a popular destination for tourists and holiday makers. The city has so many major attractions, so we’ve taken a look at some of the best of what the area has to offer.

The Aqualand, built on 70,000 square metres of land, is the most famous and largest theme park in the region. It contains a variety of water rides which include the Kamikazi, Niagara, Black hole and Twister. You can see water everywhere and hence a beautiful blue tinge always exists in the water theme park. There are areas called: Jacuzzi, Infant’s Park, Tropical Lagoon and Fast River. Throughout the whole park there are self-service restaurants, Pizzerias and hamburgerias. There is a mini golf course and gift shops to take back home memories. With such modest prices 21 euros for adults and 15 euros for children (at the time of writing), the whole theme park is one hell of a ride.

For nature and safari lovers there is the Selwo Adventure Park. The park covers over 100 hectares of land and houses all the natural free roaming animals in their natural habitats, which has been specially recreated for the park. There are safari rides for a comfortable view of free roaming animals. You can see all kinds of birds of prey and most type of animals. There are a lot of shows with lots of prizes to be won. Camping is also available in the parks grounds. There is a modest entrance price for the Selwo Adventure Park where you will enjoy these activities. This area is particularly ‘a must see’ for all nature lovers.

Crocodiles may not be a favourite for most people, but for those interested, the Crocodile Park in the Costa del Sol is a famous destination. One of the main reasons for this is that the Crocodile Park is home to prehistoric creatures that have survived 200 million years of evolution, which is a wonder in itself. Walking quietly through this area you will observe these creatures of prey, which have been evolving for a millions of years. The Crocodile Park houses 300 different species of crocodiles with one called the Big Daddy, which weighs 600 kilograms, 4.6 metres long and this is the largest crocodile in Europe. Again, crocodiles might not be on the list of one’s favourites but the Crocodile Park is a place that deserves a visit.

Another beautiful place would be the Tivoli World Show & Amusement Park. Similar to the Aqualand, this is a theme park and is a world full of magic that can be enjoyed by one and all. The theme park consists of 40 huge rides and plenty of performances ranging from bird shows, magic shows, and dance displays. It also has a lot of restaurants, and food that will suit everyone. The park also has world-class performers, who perform music in front of huge live audiences. Enjoying the rides and shows during the day and having a nice quiet walk at night would be a great experience, especially at night when the park is beautifully lit up. All of this again for the very modest price of 6 Euros. At such a cheap cost with all that enjoyment, the decision becomes very easy.

Another attraction for all animal and nature lovers is Fuengirola Zoo. One of the best things about this zoo is that animals are not kept in cages, but are kept in enclosures or inside high raised walls and so have the freedom and space to roam. The regulars such as tigers, chimpanzees, gorillas can be seen and even crocodile infested lakes. The zoo itself is quite small with 45 enclosures. There are two restaurants, one located at one of the entrances and the other near the orangutan enclosure. These are constructed in a way to blend in with the tropical ambience. The restaurants offer a wide variety of popular snacks including pizzas, hamburgers, ice creams, buffet and fast foods. Beside the restaurant there is a 500 square meter children’s play area.

We’ve only highlighted some of the many attractions on the Costa del Sol, this area should be on anyone’s list of must-visit holiday destinations.

Estepona – Quiet Gem on the Costa del Sol in Spain · Costa Del Sol Fuengirola Info

Mucho More About Here: http://costadelsolfuengirola.info/

Estepona is a wonderful little town – relatively unspoiled by tourism – and located on the Costa del Sol, about 30 minutes from Marbella, and only a short drive to Gibraltar.

Unlike the busy towns of Marbella and Fuengirola, Estepona is relatively quiet – and the centre of town is still very traditionally Spanish. The winding narrow streets are lined with older houses, with balconies decorated with bright geraniums, and the sound of pet birds singing in their cages makes a lovely sound as you stroll along. Relax in the Plaza de las Flores – a beautiful town square lined with flowers and several excellent cafes and bars.

There’s a coffee bar on virtually every corner of town and you will never go short on somewhere different to eat dinner, or have a light snack, or “tapas”. On the beach you will find the famous beach “chiringuitos” serving excellent sea food and other dishes, or just an ice cold drink when you need one.

The outskirts are developing, however, and there are many huge apartment blocks sprouting up, but luckily this doesn’t luckily interfere with the atmosphere and attractions of the town itself. New supermarkets and shopping centres have also been built on the outskirts, giving more shopping options for both residents and holidaymakers including the famous Carrefour and the ubiquitous McDonalds!

Running alongside the town is a beautiful Blue Flag beach, which is surprisingly quiet even in the summer months, lined by a stunning flower-strewn promenade. Estepona’s beaches are in actual fact 21 kms long in total! Walk along the promenade from town to the end of the beach (a comfortable stroll), and you will find first the lighthouse, and then the Port of Estepona. The port is a traditional working fishing port, but there is also the addition of a modern marina, with lovely yachts, and a selection of fine restaurants serving international and Spanish cuisine and also a Yacht Club. Definitely the place to “hang out” in the evenings, with bars and nightclubs to entertain all ages.

For history buffs, there are interesting museums to visit including the archaeological museum, the Ethnic museum and also the museum at the bull ring. Quite a few interesting historical ruins in the town too. Selwo Aventura, close to Estepona, is the only Adventure, Animal and Nature Park in Europe – enjoy a safari drive in the warm Spanish sunshine. 200 species of animals can be viewed, and photographed.

The town retains its original bull ring which hosts not only bull fighting, but also international music concerts.

Golfers will be happy with the selection of courses, including Atalaya Golf & Country Club, El Paraiso Golf Club (designed by Gary Player), Estepona Golf, Los Almendros and Golf SotoSerena,

Plenty of attractions close by too… you can easily visit Ronda, a fascinating mountain top city, or Ojen, a beautiful traditional white village, both reasonably close by, or pop down the coast to Marbella one way, or Gibraltar in the other direction, for shopping.

In town, you will find small hotels and hostals to accommodate you in comfort, or you could go for the larger and more luxurious resort hotels on the outskirts of town. There are many wonderful holiday apartments on offer in the town – either along the beachfront, or above the marina, giving options to suit all.

Transport-wise, the town has an efficient bus service and many taxis, but you might find that you need a hire car to travel further afield. As for language, many workers in restaurants and shops do speak a certain amount of English, but it would be good to have your Spanish phrase book handy.

All in all, Estepona is the ideal destination for families, couples, golfers and the young. While retaining its traditional Spanish features, it offers everything one could want for the perfect holiday, and gives you a chance to relax without the crazy crowds!

5 Must-See Places while on Holiday in Marbella · Costa Del Sol Fuengirola Info

Mucho More About Here: http://costadelsolfuengirola.info/

During your holiday in Marbella you’ll probably want to spend a lot of time lying on the beach and enjoying the warm sunshine of the Costa del Sol. And why not? After all, that’s one of the things that Marbella does best! But we would hate for you to go all the way to this fantastic town on your vacation and not take in a few of the other delights that it has to offer. Here are five of the must-see places that you should really try to check out in between sunbathing on the beach and eating in tasty restaurants during your holiday in Marbella.

1. Puerto Banus

The de facto centre of the mega-rich scene, Puerto Banus is known around the world as a representation of the height of excess. Huge and expensive yachts, the rich and famous strolling about showing off their finery – it is a people watcher’s dream. When you visit the area during your holiday in Marbella, we’d recommend that you just find yourself a comfortable seat in one of many the bars or restaurants and simply watch the ‘other’ world go by. When you get bored of that there’s plenty to see and do, including a casino if you want to try your luck. Or alternatively just stand back and watch as fortunes are made and lost on the spin of a roulette wheel.

2. Old Town

Casco Antiguo is the old town of Marbella, and we highly recommend that you spend a good amount of time here during your vacation in Marbella. Whereas Puerto Banus is lavish and brash, Casco Antiguo is the complete opposite. Charming little streets, tiny boutique shops, hidden treasures to find around every corner – you could easily spend a good few hours just wondering around and getting lost. It’s a great place to relax and get away from the beach crowds, so make sure you spend at least some time here during your holiday.

3. Bonsai Museum

The Bonsai Museum is one of the hidden gems of Marbella. Although you were probably not thinking about bonsais when you booked your holiday in Marbella, this is a real treat for anyone with an interest in the natural world. With hundreds of specimens of bonsai trees of numerous species, the museum is a treasure trove of intriguing vegetation. The central water display and the attractive rocks make wandering around a pleasant experience, and it also houses one of the most important wild olive tree collections in the world.

4. La Alameda Park

Alameda Park provides you with another great option for getting away from it all. This 18th century park has undergone many changes over the years, increasing in size at one time up to 20,000 square metres. Now it is simply an attractive and spacious park containing a variety of tree species, and relaxing in their cool shade is a great way to enjoy your siesta. The large fountain provides a good central focus, and you can finish off your stay with a trip to the famous Marbella Café in the corner of the park.

5. Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación

The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación represents one of the most attractive architectural features of the town, and we’d suggest you take an hour or to visit it during your vacation in Marbella. Construction of the church began in 1618, and after nearly four centuries it is still standing firm – that despite its interior having to be completely renovated following the Spanish Civil War. Its huge organ is impressive, and you will also find an altarpiece dating from 1940 that is devoted to Saint Bernabe, the patron saint of Marbella.
