Fuengirola on the Costa del Sol in Southern Spain · Costa Del Sol Fuengirola Info

Mucho More About Here: http://costadelsolfuengirola.info/

You might have already visited Fuengirola in summer – too many people, burning summer heat? Time to replan your Spanish holiday!

The ideal time to visit this vibrant coastal city is during autumn and spring. Mild and pleasant temperatures, glorious sunshine, and quieter streets and beaches make for a really enjoyable holiday! You will find people smile just that little bit easier, shopping and dining are an absolute pleasure, and you can enjoy all the attractions this city has to offer in comfort.

Wonderful sandy beaches, relatively empty out of season, stretch along the coast with many restaurants, bars and chiringuitos (beach cafes) to choose from. Plenty of good shops including fashion, food, shoes, etc. and some excellent new shopping centres have opened up on the border of Fuengirola and Mijas.

Fuengirola is very convenient to Malaga airport – a short drive or train ride away, and is also close to Marbella and other attractions on the Costa del Sol (also known as the Costa del Golf for golfing fans!)

Other major attractions in Fuengirola include:

The Fuengirola Zoo:

Right in the middle of town is an oasis of calm, a world class zoo with wonderful animals in very natural enclosures. Appropriate regional sounds play as you walk around the various areas of the zoo. Of particular interest are the Sumatra Tigers, the gorillas, and also the Lemur enclosure, with many of these fascinating creatures from Magagascar. This enclosure is open with a tour guide at certain times of the day – ask when you arrive at the zoo for a close up experience with magical lemurs. Best time to visit is either early morning (zoo opens at 10 am) or late afternoon.

The Sohail Castle:

On a hilltop, close to the centre of town is the Sohail Castle. Makes a pleasant stroll (if a bit uphill), with wonderful sea views from the top.

Fuengirola Port:

The port of Fuengirola consists of two sections:

1. A working fishing port where it is fascinating to watch the fishermen offloading their catches from the boats – you can also take a pleasant stroll around the port from this point and look at the many boats moored in the port, and also magnificent mountain views.

2. A leisure boat marina, with many attractive yachts and other boats. In this area are several pubs and restaurants, and also enjoyable boat trips are on offer, including sailing boats and glass bottomed boats for viewing the dolphins.

So come and visit Fuengirola and enjoy our city in the so called “off season”! You won’t regret it, and will have a wonderful holiday!

Holidays in Nerja on the Costa del Sol, Spain · Costa Del Sol Fuengirola Info

Mucho More About Here: http://costadelsolfuengirola.info/

Nerja has become one of the most popular holiday resorts on the Costa del Sol to be found east of Malaga. Unlike many of the popular destinations to the west of Malaga heading down towards Gibraltar, such as Torremolinos, Fuengirola and Marbella, Nerja has escaped mass tourism and still retains much of its original charm and character as a former fishing village.

Nerja is nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Almijara mountain range, which shelters it from the worst of winter weather whilst providing a breathtaking backdrop to the town’s traditional whitewashed stone townhouses and villas. It is surely one of the most beautiful destinations along the eastern Costa del Sol. With just a 45-minute drive to Malaga’s international airport, cheap flights available from many European destinations and a regular coastal bus service, Nerja can be an ideal cheap holiday destination.

The Balcon de Europa is the focal point of the old town and offers stunning views over the Mediterranean Sea and nearby beaches. It was originally known as ‘La Bateria’ due to the gun battery that stood here in a fortified tower, but was destroyed in 1810 by a Bristish led force during the Pennisular War to prevent occupation by French forces. Nowadays the Balcon is full of activity with street artists and entertainers, horse-drawn carriages and ice-cream vendors selling a huge variety of flavours and colours. Lined with many bars and restaurants, it offers an ideal location to relax and watch the sun set over the Mediterranean coastline.

In the old quarter of Nerja town itself, many buildings still retain their original Andalucia architectural style, and the narrow winding streets bustle with the authentic atmosphere of a working Spanish town. Yet Nerja has all the advantages of a modern town, with endless shops selling ceramics, textiles, leather goods, souvenirs and essential beach accessories for the family.

Much of Nerja’s nightlife begins late into the evening and you are sure to find a bar to your particular taste, either in the lively Tutti Frutti Square, or the many tranquil bars to be found around the Balcon de Europa. Bars and clubs in Tutti Frutti Square stay open well into the morning hours during the long, hot summer nights, and are particularly popular with younger holiday visitors. However, bars near the Balcon are more conducive to the relaxed atmosphere of Andalucia life.

If you are happy to spend your holiday relaxing in Nerja, you can be assured there are many beautiful sandy beaches hidden within small coves, lined with bars and restaurants in abundance. Burriana beach is one of the largest and most popular with tourists and Spanish alike, whilst to the side of the Balcon itself, hidden within a small cove, can be found one of Nerja’s most charming beaches with golden sand and clear blue water.

Less than 3km away are the famous Nerja Caves first discovered in 1959, now one of the most popular holiday attractions in Spain. The caves have impressive stalactite and stalagmite formations, and a natural cavern that has been turned into an impressive concert hall, the location of many theatre productions and classical concerts. One of Nerja’s most celebrated fiestas is San Isidro on the 15th May. A large procession of decorated carts leave the centre of the town heading towards the caves for a weekend of festivity and celebration, in true Andalucia style. The caves can also be reached by local bus with a regular service leaving from the main bus terminal on Avenida Pescia.

The town itself offers many holiday attractions for the visitor, but if you feel the need to explore some of the attractions Andalucia has to offer, then it is an ideal starting point for trips and excursions. Within a ten minute drive can be reached the beautiful whitewashed-stone villages of Frigiliana and Torrox, both shining white as snow in the sun. For real snow however, the Sierra Mountains offer fantastic, affordable skiing during the winter months and all within a two-hour drive. Nestled in the foothills of the mountains is the Moorish city of Granada, dominated by the mysterious Alhambra Palace. A series of palaces and gardens built over several centuries under the Nazrid Dynasty in the 14th Century.

Nerja has become very popular for people retiring or simply looking for a change of life, with a fifth of the estimated population of 20,000 being foreign residents, including more than 2,000 British. During the summer months this figure increases many more times with the arrival of holiday visitors in abundance attracted by one of the best climates in Europe. With Costa del Sol beaches, golf courses, skiing, adventure parks, water parks and the Almijara mountain range all within easy reach; Nerja has something to offer everyone.

Mijas on the Costa del Sol, Spain – Part One · Costa Del Sol Fuengirola Info

Mucho More About Here: http://costadelsolfuengirola.info/

A typical Andalucian village, Mijas Pueblo is situated approximately 25 minutes from Malaga’s International Airport set high in the mountains above Fuengirola and Mijas Costa offering spectacular views of the surrounding coastline.

Since the village was re-discovered in the mid-sixties Mijas has become the home for some 35′000 residents made up from over 60 different nationalities and there impact has led to a variety of International restaurants and bars springing up throughout the village which covers an area of approximately 142 square kilometres making it the second largest village in the area after Benahavis.

Fortunately, the village has managed to retain some of its quaint traditions, there are no main thoroughfares here, instead a web of narrow cobbled streets lined with white washed houses complete with terraces overflowing with geraniums, red tile roofs, archways and, of course, the occasional chirruping canary and to fully appreciate the village it must be explored by foot, although one can take advantage of the village’s most unusual and popular form of transport the donkey-taxis which line the central plaza.

Mijas dates back to distant times and there are two Mudejar churches here to prove it, as well as the sanctuary of the “Virgen de la Pena” the patron saint of Mijas, from the year 850.

During the month of January, Mijas holds their festival of San Anton which is celebrated with a “romeria” (open air party) at the holy hermitage and reached in carriages and on carts, piled high with flowers and food.

There is a thriving arts and crafts movement in Mijas, particularly linen and wicker items and the locally made bread and honey is definitely worth trying.

Still on a culinary note, the traditional local fare includes “gazpachuelo” (an egg soup) and for those with a sweeter tooth, there are the typical cakes made with almonds, called bunuelos and homazos.

One of the most interesting buildings in Mijas is the hermitage of El Puerto which can be spied, just about everywhere in the village, appropriately enough, halfway up a mountain! Keep looking and you may just catch a glimpse a hang-glider wafting over the peak.

Also look out for the Mineral water spring at the entrance to the village.

Costa del Sol: a great place to visit in Spain · Costa Del Sol Fuengirola Info

Mucho More About Here: http://costadelsolfuengirola.info/

Spain is a country with a long and interesting history. As a mixture of past cultures, the present shows a country with fascinating traditions. It is also important to know that no matter what the ordinary tourist is looking for, he can find it all in this country: beautiful beaches with great weather all year round, mountains perfect for skiing, great sightseeing cities with a lot of culture. Because of all these, there are a number of about 60 million tourists every year and it is constantly growing. So, a concern for all these people coming to visit is the availability of rooms in hotels in Costa del Sol.

The Spanish tourism flourishes every year because it is one of the most affordable and easy to reach destinations in Europe offering a variety of choices regarding accommodations, travelling means and entertainment. The hotels in Costa del Sol are always full of tourists, due to the fact that the region has great potential. There is something interesting to do for everyone, from families, who want to have fun with the children, to singles looking to hang out on the beach and enjoy the nightlife. There are hotels in Costa del Sol to cater for all tastes and needs. For example, families who want to spend quality time with their children can stay in some hotels in Costa del Sol which are closer to the Selwo Wildlife Park. Depending on what you plan on doing during your holiday, the region has it all.

The region was discovered for international tourism only in the 1950 and it became renowned for its beautiful beaches. But this is not the only a reason for the hotels in Costa del Sol to always be full of visitors. Lately, another attraction has drawn tourists – golf. The vast number of high-quality golf courses in the area has contributed to the increase in tourism and to the fact that a lot of complexes have started to be built. The scenery is wonderful for those romantic persons willing to relax and spend some time admiring the area. The Mediterranean Sea, seen from the transformed sunny coast or from the window of your hotel in Costa del Sol, is undeniably wonderful. White-washed villas, high buildings and the hotels in Costa del Sol bring the region a personal light full of charm and satisfactory for all tastes. As the area is heavily urbanised, it doesn’t matter if you’ve checked in one of the hotels in Costa del Sol or if you prefer a villa, architectural styles create an unforgettable mixture ready to please anyone.

For water park amateurs, there are some hotels in Costa del Sol which are close to Torremolinos where there are 2 such parks with plenty of water slides that are great fun. Also, for those with more cultural tastes, finding a stay in Costa de Sol hotels, closer to Malaga, is very helpful because in this city you can visit the Picasso Museum. Last, but not least, if you are a plant lover, you can’t miss the chance to visit the Bonsai Museum or the Botanical Gardens. Of course, there are plenty of Costa del Sol hotels close to these areas.

Undoubtedly, most hotels in Costa del Sol are situated along the beach of the Mediterranean Sea, as the main attraction for people who come here is this – lazing on the beach, enjoying tasty drinks, getting a nice tan and forgetting all about the hardships of life. Costa del Sol hotels are the most popular because it is more comfortable for those who are looking to relax and unwind to spend as little time on the road between destinations. They can easily go to the beach and come back to the Costa del Sol hotels to rest and have launch.

The most distinguished city in the Costa del Sol region is Marbella, the place where the king of Saudi Arabia built one of his palaces. There are numerous hotels in Marbella, due to the fact that the area has a huge number of tourists every year. Its popularity is surpassed only by the quality of the offered services. Because of the competition, it is only normal for the hotels in Marbella to have become more and more customer – oriented. Therefore, no matter what you want, everything is of excellent taste and quality, especially when it comes to the few Marbella hotels situated in the harbour – Puerto Banus. They might however be more expensive than the hotels in other parts of Costa del Sol, due to the fact that Marbella hotels have only three or four stars. Staying in one of the hotels in Marbella might cost you more, but you can have it all right there, even a small kitchen. Also, there are Marbella hotels which offer suites, not simple rooms, and they are all as luxurious as you can imagine.

People who want to spend less money on housing and still spend their time in the heart of Costa del Sol can do so by staying in one of the cheaper Marbella hotels situated a little further away. It’s a fifteen minute drive from these hotels to the core of the excitement. However, due to the fact that renting a car or paying for a cab is quite expensive, in the end, one might end up paying even more than by staying in one of the hotels in Marbella to begin with.

The advantages of staying in the comfort of one of the hotels in Marbella are numerous. Besides the comfort, by visiting Marbella you can get to see some great sights like Museo del Grabado Español Contemporáneo, the old city centre, the Arabian Wall, the Bonsai museum (which was already mentioned) and a lot beaches like Fontanilla and Bajadilla. The beauty of this place is reflected in the fact that a lot of famous people have chosen it for a vacation destination. So, if you decide to book a room in one of the hotels in Marbella, you might get to spot someone like Antonio Banderas or Sean Connery on the beach sitting next to you. It is after all a favourite destination for wealthy tourists, who enjoy quality services in luxurious hotels in Marbella and love peace and quite away from the eye of the press.

To conclude with, the hotels in Costa del Sol and especially the expensive, distinguished hotels in Marbella, are one more reason to visit this beautiful region of Spain. No matter if you come there with the entire family or by yourself, you will be able to have a great time and find interesting things to do.

Visit Go-Cielo.com to find out which budget hotels in Costa del Sol have vacancies and book a room in advance. The same procedure is available for cheap hotels in Marbella. Our services can be very useful as the information we offer saves you a lot of time usually spent on useless searches.

Magical Spain and its islands · Costa Del Sol Fuengirola Info

Mucho More About Here: http://costadelsolfuengirola.info/

Wherever you go in Spain – the mainland, the Costas, the Canary Islands or the Balearic Islands, you can be sure of sun in the summer months. You can also be sure of fun when you visit Spain. You’ll love it so much; you’re bound to go back!

Think of holidays in Spain and your mind will almost certainly turn to sun and sea – and perhaps the nightlife too! You might stretch to thinking of flamenco dancers, the stamping feet and the click of the castanets. Great images!

There is all that in Spain – and more too.

Most Brits taking holidays in Spain head for the Costas, with the Costa del Sol on the south coast being the most popular. Destinations such as Malaga, Marbella, Fuengirola, Torremolinos roll off the tongue. The coast is also known as the Costa Del Golf – for obvious reasons. There are also the Costa Blanca in the south east, Costa de la Luz in the south west, Costa Brava in the north east, all with their own attractions.

However, there is more to Spain than its alluring costas. There is the capital city of Madrid and the culture of Barcelona. You might wish to explore Moorish castles or take in that particular Spanish obsession: bull-fighting.

Holidays in Spain for most is the attraction of the sun. But Spain is more than the mainland too. The famous Balearic holiday islands of Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza have become synonymous with nightlife locations and remain ever popular, especially among the young holidaymakers. If they surface during the day, there are even wonderful beaches for them to enjoy!

In the Atlantic Spain’s islands are the Canary Islands, with destinations such as Gran Canaria, Lanzarote (look for Timanfaya National Park, a huge area of dormant volcanoes), Tenerife, Fuerteventura (where you can find the gleaming white dunes of Corralejo National Park).

Wherever you go in Spain – mainland, coast or islands – there is nearly always the sunshine to enjoy, especially, of course, in the summer months.

So take your sun cream, sun hat, sun shades and swimming costume – you’re going to need them; perhaps the after-sun cream headache tablets too!

Estepona – Quiet Gem on the Costa del Sol in Spain · Costa Del Sol Fuengirola Info

Mucho More About Here: http://costadelsolfuengirola.info/

Estepona is a wonderful little town – relatively unspoiled by tourism – and located on the Costa del Sol, about 30 minutes from Marbella, and only a short drive to Gibraltar.

Unlike the busy towns of Marbella and Fuengirola, Estepona is relatively quiet – and the centre of town is still very traditionally Spanish. The winding narrow streets are lined with older houses, with balconies decorated with bright geraniums, and the sound of pet birds singing in their cages makes a lovely sound as you stroll along. Relax in the Plaza de las Flores – a beautiful town square lined with flowers and several excellent cafes and bars.

There’s a coffee bar on virtually every corner of town and you will never go short on somewhere different to eat dinner, or have a light snack, or “tapas”. On the beach you will find the famous beach “chiringuitos” serving excellent sea food and other dishes, or just an ice cold drink when you need one.

The outskirts are developing, however, and there are many huge apartment blocks sprouting up, but luckily this doesn’t luckily interfere with the atmosphere and attractions of the town itself. New supermarkets and shopping centres have also been built on the outskirts, giving more shopping options for both residents and holidaymakers including the famous Carrefour and the ubiquitous McDonalds!

Running alongside the town is a beautiful Blue Flag beach, which is surprisingly quiet even in the summer months, lined by a stunning flower-strewn promenade. Estepona’s beaches are in actual fact 21 kms long in total! Walk along the promenade from town to the end of the beach (a comfortable stroll), and you will find first the lighthouse, and then the Port of Estepona. The port is a traditional working fishing port, but there is also the addition of a modern marina, with lovely yachts, and a selection of fine restaurants serving international and Spanish cuisine and also a Yacht Club. Definitely the place to “hang out” in the evenings, with bars and nightclubs to entertain all ages.

For history buffs, there are interesting museums to visit including the archaeological museum, the Ethnic museum and also the museum at the bull ring. Quite a few interesting historical ruins in the town too. Selwo Aventura, close to Estepona, is the only Adventure, Animal and Nature Park in Europe – enjoy a safari drive in the warm Spanish sunshine. 200 species of animals can be viewed, and photographed.

The town retains its original bull ring which hosts not only bull fighting, but also international music concerts.

Golfers will be happy with the selection of courses, including Atalaya Golf & Country Club, El Paraiso Golf Club (designed by Gary Player), Estepona Golf, Los Almendros and Golf SotoSerena,

Plenty of attractions close by too… you can easily visit Ronda, a fascinating mountain top city, or Ojen, a beautiful traditional white village, both reasonably close by, or pop down the coast to Marbella one way, or Gibraltar in the other direction, for shopping.

In town, you will find small hotels and hostals to accommodate you in comfort, or you could go for the larger and more luxurious resort hotels on the outskirts of town. There are many wonderful holiday apartments on offer in the town – either along the beachfront, or above the marina, giving options to suit all.

Transport-wise, the town has an efficient bus service and many taxis, but you might find that you need a hire car to travel further afield. As for language, many workers in restaurants and shops do speak a certain amount of English, but it would be good to have your Spanish phrase book handy.

All in all, Estepona is the ideal destination for families, couples, golfers and the young. While retaining its traditional Spanish features, it offers everything one could want for the perfect holiday, and gives you a chance to relax without the crazy crowds!

Going to Live in Spain · Costa Del Sol Fuengirola Info

Going to Live in Spain
Thousands of people every year dream of going to live in Spain and a small percentage of them do it. What is the reason for the dream, and how does the reality live up to it?

I came to Spain in 1991, 14 years ago at the time of writing, with my husband and three young children then aged 4, 7 and 8. To be honest we had initially intended to go to France, having been tempted by the promise of beautiful rural property going for a song, but we went the wrong way when we got off the ferry in Santander and have been here ever since!

Our reasons for leaving England, Lincolnshire to be exact, were not much different I imagine from anyone else’s, better climate, cheaper property prices, less stressful way of life, lower crime rate, cheaper cost of living lower taxation and bureaucracy, less traffic and pollution and generally a better environment for our growing children. In all respects I should say the move has lived up to our expectations.

Of course it wasn’t all plain sailing. For a start none of us spoke a word of Spanish, we had been busy learning French! We fell in love with Northern Spain as the scenery is so beautiful but it was impossible to find any property to buy as there were no such things as estate agents then, those halcyon days! But for all we curse them they do at least provide a meeting point between buyer and seller. So against all our original intentions we hitched up the caravan and headed south, having been told by some English people we met on a campsite that it would be alot easier down there. Which indeed it was.

We didn’t want to follow the sun, sea and sangria route as we were looking for isolation and seclusion and after responding to an advert for a house for sale in the English paper “SUR in English” we were introduced to a Spaniard who after much painstaking searching managed to find us the place of our dreams in the mountains of Casares, just inland from Estepona on the Costa del Sol However we still weren’t home and dry as all we actually bought was 10,000 sq. meters of complete isolation and a ruin without water or electricity! So now the fun had just begun.

In any event we soon discovered that we had escaped bureaucracy as all we had to do was present a simple plan drawn by my husband and pay 200 pesetas and we had planning permission to more or less do as we wished. However that was easier said than done as we still barely spoke the lingo and didn’t even know the word for brick. Still with the aid of Hugo’s Spanish in 3 months, (3 years more like) we plodded on and built our own piece of paradise on the sunny slopes of an Andalucian mountain. The children enrolled in the village school and within a few months were virtually bi-lingual. The local people were very friendly and trusting and adored the children arguing amongst themselves as to whose turn it was to invite them for merienda after school.

So 14 years down the line we are still here and have no desire to return. Most of our hopes and expectations have been realized. Certainly the climate is better, the property, at the time was cheaper, the Spanish don’t know the meaning of the word stress, although sometimes this can be a bit stressful in itself! The crime rate in our area is virtually nil, we don’t even have a lock on the door, the cost of living was lower but with the advent of the euro is steadily rising, taxation on the essentials in life such as alcohol, fuel and even tobacco is less and certainly even today the Spanish do try to keep bureaucracy to a minimum. Pollution is pretty minimal as there is no heavy industry in this area and although the traffic has increased it obviously has done so in the U.K. as well. I certainly think the children had a better environment to grow up in as they were able to have the freedom to roam and explore that you certainly could not afford children in the U.K. these days. One other great benefit that I had not considered before is the much healthier lifestyle. The Mediterranean diet is considered to be one of the healthiest in the world, the sunshine is good for body and soul, the air is fresher, the longer winter days are much less depressing and if you like out door pursuits such as golf, swimming, walking etc. then it is definitely the right place to be. It is little wonder that the local population have a longer life span and comparatively lower rates of cancer and heart disease than in other western countries.

Most of the above still holds true for today. Of course there is a lot of development and a much larger foreign population but that has it’s benefits. The infrastructure has been greatly improved, in particular the roads and airports and accessibility to all parts of Andalucia from Britain has never been easier. It is now easy to take out a mortgage to buy a Spanish property either at home in Gibraltar or with a Spanish bank. There is certainly a far greater choice of properties for sale and of course plenty of Estate agents!

If you are thinking of moving over here then don’t rush into buying the first brand new villa or apartment you see, shop around. You will probably get better value for money if you buy a second hand property and at least you don’t have to worry about dead lines not being met and being left high and dry with all your baggage packed and no place to go. Also all teething problems will have already been ironed out and water, electricity and possibly even phone connections will be up and running.

It is very quick to buy in Spain, it is just a matter of going to the Notary with the money, signing the papers and you can move in- no need to exchange contracts and wait for completion dates etc. You don’t even really need a solicitor but if this is your first time it is probably advisable.

Buying a ruin, as we did, and building is now more or less out of the question as the Junta de Andalucia have put a ban on rural development. The only exception is if you can prove that you have a working Finca and that you need to live on the premises to tend to your livestock.

If you are serious about settling here then do make an attempt to Learn Spanish as you will get so much more out of your time here. The Spanish people are very kind hearted and friendly and very patient with all us mad foreigners, so many of whom don’t speak the lingo, but they really appreciate you making the effort.

So if your dream is to go and live in Spain then do it! You will find it a wonderful life enriching experience.
